Industrial Brackish Water RO Treatment Systems
Industrial Brackish Water Desalination Plants
Our industrial brackish water reverse osmosis (RO) systems are engineered for continuous operation with capacities ranging from 48 m³/h to 7,500 m³/day. For applications requiring smaller flow rates, we recommend our commercial brackish water RO systems.
Definition of Brackish Water
Brackish water is typically classified as water with a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) concentration between 1,000 ppm and 12,000 ppm. While scientific references vary, any raw water source that is neither potable freshwater (<500 ppm) nor seawater (>35,000 ppm) and falls within this range is considered brackish.
Process Description
1.Feed and Pretreatment
- The process begins with a high-pressure booster pump that transfers raw water to the pretreatment stage.
- Pretreatment configuration depends on plant capacity and raw water analysis. Typical units include multimedia filtration, activated carbon filtration, cartridge filters, and chemical dosing (antiscalant, pH adjustment, biocide).
- Pretreatment tanks are generally fabricated from FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) or carbon steel with epoxy lining, depending on water chemistry, salinity, and corrosion potential. Alternative materials can be specified following a detailed raw water analysis.
2. RO System
- The pretreated water is pressurized through high-pressure pumps into RO membranes designed for brackish water applications.
- System design parameters (recovery rate, flux, and permeate quality) are calculated based on feed TDS, fouling index, and scaling potential
3. Post-Treatment (Optional)
- Depending on application, permeate may require post-treatment such as remineralization, pH adjustment, or UV sterilization.
Design Considerations
- TDS and Salt Content: Higher salinity requires more robust corrosion-resistant materials.
- Tank Material Selection: FRP is typically preferred for its chemical resistance, while carbon steel (with suitable coating) is specified for high-capacity systems requiring mechanical strength.
- Scalability: System modularity allows capacity expansion by adding additional membrane skids.
- Control Systems: Automated PLC-based control with instrumentation for monitoring pressure, conductivity, and flow ensures reliable operation and early fault detection.
